I’m curious—what comes to mind when you hear the word “etiquette”?

This question has been dancing through my thoughts during my travels across Europe and Morocco over the past two months. Observing different cultures, customs and social graces has me wondering: is etiquette an outdated concept, or is it more relevant than ever?

Perhaps it’s watching a Moroccan host pour tea with such graceful ceremony that it becomes performance art

Or noticing how Europeans seem to have mastered the delicate balance of being direct yet kind
➡️ Image 3. These moments have reminded me that etiquette isn’t about rigid rules or stuffy formality—it’s simply the art of making others feel comfortable and respected.

In our increasingly casual world, I find myself appreciating those small gestures more than ever. The person who still says “please” and “thank you” with genuine warmth. The traveller who makes an effort to dress appropriately rather than looking like they’ve just rolled out of bed. The dinner companion who puts their phone away entirely.

Maybe modern etiquette isn’t about knowing which fork to use (though that has its place!), but about being present, considerate and gracious in our daily interactions. For me, it’s about creating little pockets of civility and grace in a world that often feels rushed, disconnected and messy.

Call me old-fashioned or snobbish, but I believe good social skills, personal presentation and manners are even more important today.

So tell me, what does “etiquette” mean to you? Antiquated rules or essential kindness? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

It never ceases to surprise me how I feel after a ‘reset button’ moment. Recently, I discovered I’d been carrying around other people’s expectations like an overpacked suitcase, wondering why everything felt so heavy. Yes, travelling for 2 months with a large suitcase can do that... and I’m not making this up—the scales at the airport increased from 25kg to 38kg very quickly. Now that’s evidence!

Sometimes life needs a pause button.
Not because anything is wrong, but because everything is moving so fast that we forget to check if we’re still heading in the right direction. Pressing the reset button isn’t about starting over—it’s about giving ourselves the space to gather our thoughts, reassess our priorities and move forward with renewed clarity.

I’ve found that these moments of intentional pause often come disguised as travel, quiet weekends, or simply saying “no” to the next invitation in favour of time with yourself. It’s in these spaces that we rediscover what truly matters and what we might have been carrying that no longer serves us.

The reset isn’t about dramatic life changes or grand gestures. Sometimes it’s as simple as clearing your calendar for a morning, taking a different route home, or asking yourself, “What would make me genuinely happy right now?”

There’s profound wisdom in knowing when to step back, breathe deeply and recalibrate. Life will always be there when you’re ready to re-engage—but with fresh perspective and clearer intention.

The most fulfilled people I know aren’t those who never slow down; they’re the ones who recognise when it’s time to pause, reflect and reset their course.

As my skin has matured, I have found that less makeup on my face actually looks so much better. The challenge is to find very good and affordable skincare that can bring some glow and hydration back into my 60-plus skin.

This gorgeous @camillawithlove silk dress and I have quite the history. I purchased it more than 10 years ago, and while it rarely sees the light of day in Sydney, it has an uncanny ability to find its way into my suitcase whenever I’m heading somewhere beachy.
There’s something about this dress that whispers “vacation” to me. When we’re away, it comes alive, and I find myself reaching for it most evenings. Whatever the magic, this dress has been my faithful travel companion to countless destinations.
Currently, it’s enjoying a Greek holiday with me, looking as effortlessly elegant as ever. :)

People often say, “You wear dresses so beautiful

People often say, “You wear dresses so beautifully!” And I appreciate that deeply. But truth be told, my longest fashion love affair has been with suits.

There’s freedom in a well-cut jacket, strength in a defined shoulder, elegance in simplicity. I fell in love with suits in my teens, when I chose my first one over the expected dress. It felt right then and it still does now.

These days, I style mine with softness. A silk scarf tucked into the pocket. Sleeves pushed up, sneakers if I feel playful, heels if I feel fierce. I like the balance of ease and intention.

Style isn’t about sticking to one look. It’s about honouring what makes you feel most like yourself. Some days that’s a floaty dress. On other days it’s a sharp suit. But always… it’s you wearing the clothes, not the other way around.

There’s something wonderfully liberating about no longer feeling the need to apologise for taking up space or being yourself. It’s like finally getting the joke—except the punchline was always that there was no competition to begin with.

The moment you stop worrying about how you stack up, you discover what I recently remembered: you’ve always been enough. Finding my own path has honestly been a game changer.

Yes, it took me a few decades to arrive at this delightful revelation (better late than never!), but now in my early sixties, I think I’ve finally nailed it. Thank goodness, because I’m planning on this newfound certainty being my rock for the decades ahead.

For confidence, I would give myself a solid 8 out of 10 today... curious what you think?

Some hotels have the most interesting spaces and I thoroughly enjoyed discovering more than just rooms, suites, bars and restaurants at The Bank Hotel in Istanbul @thebankhotelistanbul

I love when a hotel that has stories within its walls and when you can sense its character from the moment you step in. The Bank is filled historical details, from its rich architectural features to its rooftop views that made me pause and appreciate where I was.

I’ll be sharing more delights from my stay in the coming weeks… meanwhile if you’re planning a trip to Istanbul, I highly recommend staying in this perfectly located, beautifully designed hotel with the most wonderful staff.

I used to think you needed a reason to wear something special... a party, a milestone, a formal invitation.

But lately, I’ve let go of that rule.

And I always say, you wear it for you.
