Ariana Sustainable Luxury Lodge, Cappadocia
Where Ancient Landscapes Meet Timeless Tranquillity
After considerable research, I chose Ariana as the place for my daughter and I to stay in Cappadocia. Looking back now, my only miscalculation was not booking more nights. Four days felt far too brief for this extraordinary region and Ariana proved to be the most perfect base from which to explore it.
Perched high on a hill, the lodge commands views that stop you in your tracks. Everywhere you turn, there’s another vista of fairy chimneys, ancient rock formations and valleys that seem to exist outside of time. The sunsets here are nothing short of unforgettable, the kind that have you abandoning conversations mid-sentence to simply stand and watch the sky transform.
But beyond the spectacular setting, what captivated us most was the profound sense of peace that seemed to follow us wherever we moved within Ariana. This is a place where you exhale without realising you’d been holding your breath.

Accommodation and Design
Ariana’s design philosophy respects its dramatic natural surroundings rather than competing with them. The architecture draws inspiration from Cappadocia’s cave dwellings whilst incorporating contemporary comforts and sustainable practices. Stone, timber and earthy textures create spaces that feel both ancient and refreshingly modern.
The interiors are understated yet sophisticated – handwoven textiles, locally crafted ceramics and thoughtful lighting that shifts with the day’s rhythm. Nothing feels overdone. Instead, every element seems to serve a purpose – to ground you, to connect you to the landscape, to encourage you to slow down.
Lobby
Walking through the property, you notice the quiet details – carved wooden screens that filter light beautifully, niches displaying regional pottery, seating areas positioned to frame those impossible views. The designers understood that in a place as visually dramatic as Cappadocia, the interiors should whisper, not shout.
Deluxe Stone Suite
Our suite, Arana, was a sanctuary of calm. Warm stone walls, plush bedding in soft neutrals, and windows that framed the fairy chimneys like living artwork. Waking up here, with morning light spilling across those ancient rock formations, felt almost surreal, as though we’d stepped into another era entirely.
The space was very generous and definitely not cavernous. A seating area by the window became my daughter’s favourite spot to read after a day’s adventure. The attention to comfort was evident in every detail, from the beautiful linens to the little treats that were delivered each day.
Bathroom
The bathroom continued the theme of understated luxury. Natural stone, rainfall shower and beautifully scented local amenities that spoke to Ariana’s commitment to supporting regional artisans. There’s something rather wonderful about bathing in a space where the materials underfoot have been shaped by the same geological forces that created the landscape you’ve been exploring all day.
Dining and Social Spaces
All our meals at Ariana were delicious, but more than that, they were thoughtful. The kitchen champions local ingredients and traditional Anatolian flavours, presenting them with a light, contemporary touch. Breakfasts were generous affairs featuring house-made jams, local cheeses, freshly baked breads and seasonal fruits.
The Plum Restaurant
Dinners felt like small events. My daughter and I actually ventured out onto the patio each evening just as the sun started to set and we then had our dinner outside (a light cardigan was needed but soft throws are provided if you forget). One evening we enjoyed a slow-cooked lamb dish so tender it barely needed a knife, paired with a Turkish wine we’d never have discovered on our own. The sommelier’s knowledge was impressive, his recommendations always spot-on.

The lodge’s common areas invite lingering. A library stocked with books on the region’s history and geology, comfortable lounges with fireplaces for cooler evenings and terraces where you can watch hot air balloons drift across the very early morning sky. These spaces never felt crowded; Ariana’s intimate size ensures a sense of privacy even in shared areas.
Insider Tip: Book at least five nights if you can – we wished we had. Request a room facing the valleys for those unforgettable sunrise views when the hot air balloons launch. The staff can arrange private guided hikes through the rose and red valleys; we found this infinitely more rewarding than joining larger tour groups. Ask about their sunset wine experience on the terrace. It’s not on any menu but absolutely worth it. The concierge’s recommendations for local pottery studios and less touristy underground cities were impeccable. And don’t miss breakfast on the terrace, watching the landscape come alive with morning light whilst sipping Turkish coffee is pure magic.

What to Expect: Ariana Sustainable Luxury Lodge
Ariana positions itself as a luxury boutique lodge with a strong commitment to sustainability and cultural authenticity. Rooms typically range from €250–400 per night depending on season and room category, with suites commanding premium rates for their additional space and enhanced views.
This is not a resort with endless amenities – rather, it’s a thoughtfully curated experience for travellers who value authenticity, sustainability and meaningful connection to place. The lodge includes breakfast and most guests choose to dine on-site for dinner given the excellence of the cuisine and the appeal of not leaving such a peaceful setting once you’ve settled in.
Ariana distinguishes itself from Cappadocia’s many cave hotels through its elevated position, contemporary sustainability practices and commitment to supporting local artisans and producers. The experience feels personal rather than packaged, ideal for discerning travellers who want to experience Cappadocia’s magic without the crowds.
Seasonal Note: Our June visit offered ideal conditions – warm days perfect for exploring, cool evenings on the terrace and clear skies for both balloon watching and stargazing. Spring (April-May) brings wildflowers to the valleys and comfortable temperatures for hiking. Autumn (September-October) offers similar appeal with the addition of harvest season and fewer visitors. Winter, whilst cold, transforms Cappadocia into a stark, beautiful landscape. I imagine Ariana’s fireplaces and heated spaces would make it a cosy retreat for those seeking a quieter, more contemplative experience.
