Good manners never go out of style. Hello dear f Good manners never go out of style.

Hello dear friends,
After walking through Sydney’s CBD today, something I do regularly as I live a stone’s throw from it - I couldn’t help thinking about how so many of us aren’t aware of (and possibly don’t care about) simple manners and etiquette. It saddened me... but inspired me to create this post. I hope you enjoy it!
And yes, I would love comments and feedback as I can use the intel for my passion mission @powerofetiquette.

These are my 10 simple rules that will help you move through the world with more confidence, create better connections and make the people around you feel genuinely valued.
Perhaps most people forget them - not because they don’t care, but because modern life moves fast and we lose sight of the small gestures that matter most.
The truth is, etiquette isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being considerate. It’s about showing up with intention and treating others the way they deserve to be treated.
Gosh, I feel good just saying it :)

Which of these resonates most with you?

Or which one do you need to work on? (I’m still practising no. 3 myself!)

 ♥️ Save this for later

The Suit: A Brief History I was in my very early The Suit: A Brief History

I was in my very early twenties when suits became a major part of my wardrobe. Perhaps the reason I’ve never stopped loving them isn’t just because they look and feel so damn good, but also because of the fascinating history women and suits share.

1890s: Women wore tailored suits for cycling and “unladylike” activities. Scandalous at the time, practical in reality.

1920s: Coco Chanel gave women suits that were actually comfortable. Revolutionary concept: fashion that lets you move and breathe.

1940s: With men at war, women entered the workforce in droves. Suits became the uniform of capable working women. They never looked back.

1966: Yves Saint Laurent introduced Le Smoking, the tuxedo suit for women. Finally, women could wear trousers to evening events.

1980s: Power dressing arrived. Shoulder pads, boardrooms, women meaning business.

Today: We wear suits however we want - oversized, fitted, with trainers, with heels, buttoned up or thrown open.
The suit adapted to us, not the other way around.

I’ve been wearing suits for over 40 years. They’ve been my armour, my confidence, my “I mean business” uniform and my chic and cool choice.

The suit is here to stay. 🖤

Something I’ve been working on for a while is fi Something I’ve been working on for a while is finally here and I’m so excited to share it with you.
I’ve launched @powerofetiquette - a space dedicated to modern etiquette, professional presence and genuine confidence.

For those of you who’ve followed my styling and travel journey here, you know I’ve always been about bringing kindness and beauty into our lives - through style, through the places I explore and through the small moments that matter to me.

Power of Etiquette is a natural extension of that. It’s about creating more meaningful connections, more grace in how we move through the world and more ease in everyday life as well as social and professional situations.

After decades in fashion, I'm currently completing certification training with The English Manner (London) and Beaumont Etiquette (New York). Why? Because I wanted to create something that makes etiquette accessible, relevant and practical for our modern life. Not stuffy rules, instead ... just thoughtful guidance that actually helps.

If you’re interested in topics like developing presence, navigating life with ease, dining confidence or simply understanding the unspoken rules that create connection - I’d love to have you join me there.

Follow @powerofetiquette and let me know what you think ♥️

(And don’t worry - I’m still here on @claudia.hackman sharing style, travel, and life as always!)

The Oaza Suit from Vivi Al Ago The Oaza jacket an The Oaza Suit from Vivi Al Ago

The Oaza jacket and pants are the latest very welcome additions to my wardrobe. From
the double-breasted silhouette with classic notched lapels to the self tie belt … it is beautifully finished slanting pockets and straight shoulders.
The pants are sleek, flattering and modern. I’ve kept them purposely long to wear with high heels ... this time with a favourite @jimmychoo pair in silver, though they’d look equally gorgeous with sneakers.
Next season, I think I’ll have them taken up a few notches because I know I won’t be able to resist pairing them with loafers or sneakers, a simple white tee and dark sunglasses. 😎
A very favourite look of mine.

This won’t be the last time you see me in my black Oaza suit.
I continue to fall in love with this elegant, super chic label from Hobart, Australia.
Founded in 2022 by Maria Bigg and Alexandra Harvey, Vivi Al Ago creates considered, timeless pieces for the modern wardrobe.

The collection is available online with international shipping.

I Can’t Resist Bob’s Store ... Another visit I Can’t Resist Bob’s Store ...

Another visit to The Rocks Markets, another irresistible Italian linen jacket from Bob @patrickmoorsilk. That’s two now and I’m not even slightly sorry.

This time I discovered that Bob was an academic in his pre-retirement life. Fascinating. He told me that when he travelled overseas, he’d find beautiful fabrics and textiles, purchase them and make his own clothes.

Upon retiring, he decided to make more and sell them. @patrickmoorsilk was born.
Now, at 74, he sells his beautiful, individually made jackets and shirts on weekends at The Rocks Markets.

I LOVE the detail on the inside of these jackets as much as the outside.
The craftsmanship is extraordinary.

My next purchase? A shirt.

Oh and by the way, these are made for men.
Doesn’t bother me one bit.
If it fits and I love it, I buy it.
The fabrics are stunning - unique woven silks and Italian linen.

Gentlemen, you’ll look fabulous in @patrickmoorsilk too.

Mix Your Brands (Was This Ever Even a Question?) Mix Your Brands (Was This Ever Even a Question?)

Yesterday I read somewhere that mixing your brands is now cool.

Raised eyebrows. Open mouth. My response to the screen was a loud “REALLY??” and total disbelief that it was once NOT cool. My style hackles were raised. Who on earth would even think for a minute that mixing brands was a fashion faux pas?

As a seasoned fashion buyer, retailer and stylist, I can tell you with total conviction that walking out head to toe in one brand is not only uncool and a major styling blunder, it’s also dull and boring.

Mix, layer and style to your heart’s content.
Do not for a moment think you can’t wear your Uniqlo (my current favourite for basics) with your Bottega Veneta.

Whew! I feel so much better having expressed this opinion in public.

Current Vibe “You have brains in your head. You Current Vibe
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” — Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

When my daughter was little, we read. A lot. We consumed books to the point where we could have opened our own bookshop.

Any Dr. Seuss book was a favourite. We’d read them and laugh at the silliness, but loved them because the stories were profound. Each had a message.

It was like the fairy tales my mother read to me in Russian. I was one of seven children and any time with my mum was precious.

Back to my current vibe: Dr. Seuss and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
It’s been a strange beginning to the year. I had every intention of seizing the newness and firing ahead. Instead I fell into a slump. Did much less than planned, which created a further slump.

I did self-therapy, self-soothing, crying and being annoyed with myself. On the surface I functioned, putting on my happy “Claudia” face—mastered over decades in fashion. My clothes and red lipstick were my armour while within I recalibrated.

It worked. It still does.

My slump has passed. I’m refreshed, recalibrated and the various Claudias have reconnected.

How do I know? I’ve been firing with new projects. Creativity and clarity are back. Nothing feels insurmountable. Sunshine is on the radar.

Why share this? Because many of us have moments where self-doubt creeps in. If I shared a bit of me, it might help someone else. We’re all human, we don’t live perfect lives and those down moments are needed as much as the up ones.

I have a brain in my head, my feet are in my shoes and I’m steering myself in the direction I choose. ☀️

Because if so, I’m claiming it.

Last night I set my intentions for a great start to the week. This morning I had a photoshoot with a best friend. We hadn’t seen each other since Christmas (that’s far too long) and we forgot what we were there for. Not being able to contain ourselves, we behaved like kids. It was soooo good.

May your week be as delightful as mine started. 🤍

I can’t quite remember when Timothy and I first I can’t quite remember when Timothy and I first connected on Instagram, but it’s one of those lovely friendships I genuinely treasure. (You do too, don’t you, Timothy?)
His posts always warm my heart or make me smile, often at the same time, which is quite a skill ... and that is why I want share them with you.

Timothy describes himself as a “creative thinker and lover of all things beautiful,” and he’s certainly that. But I think he’s also something more ... a special being who brings beauty into the world through everything he creates. Whether he’s drawing, painting, designing or writing poetry, there’s something in his work that quietly stays with you.

Today I’m sharing his poem “Love,” which he wrote recently. It’s beautiful.
Please read it, then browse through just a few examples of his incredible work.

There’s so much more to see on his Instagram.

When I was planning my trip to the Greek islands l When I was planning my trip to the Greek islands last year, I asked a Greek friend (of course) what the antithesis of Santorini and Mykonos was. I’d been to Spetses and Sifnos and loved both, but this time I wanted something similar yet different.
His recommendation? Folegandros. It beautifully hit the sweet spot.

This 32 sq km (12 mile) rocky island has everything you’d hope for ... azure waters, white churches perched on hilltops, sunset spots everywhere you turn and delicious Greek food.
What makes it special? The laid-back, unhurried pace that wraps around you the moment you arrive. No airport, no cruise ships means fewer people and that’s my kind of island.

There are three villages and Chora, the elevated main town, was my favourite. It was literally deserted during the day - even the cats and dogs seemed to be on extended siestas - but in the evening the whole town came alive. People eating, drinking, celebrating weddings in the town squares ... I certainly didn’t hesitate to join in when I was pulled into one as we passed by after dinner. The dancing was so much fun, even on a full tummy.

Folegandros has lovely hikes along rural footpaths connecting villages and isolated beaches. Only one main road runs around it. Simple, uncomplicated and perfect.
Seven hundred residents live here year round and the number swells to around 3,000 in summer. Even then, it never felt crowded.

Folegandros. 🤍
